REFURBISHING THE SINK AND COUNTER AREA |
YOU CAN ONLY WORK WITH OLD STUFF for so long and then..... you get the urge to clear it out and start again. So that's how this refurbishment came about. When the shed was built about 15 years ago a second hand sink and cupboard was installed and it had really had it's day. Time to rip it all out and expose all the nasties that had been living in, under and behind this horrid mess. The snake skins worried SWMBO a little but by the time she saw the size of the cane toads she had to catch and bag and freeze, she got over the snake skins! |

One of our headaches when brewing was..... finding room to quickly put things whilst you're into your routine. So this new sink and bench unit was custom built to give us plenty of room and keep things up off the floor so the pressure washer can clean everything out if required. It's mostly galvanised square tubing (and anything not galvanised is painted Budwiser Green - formerly known as John Deere Green) We had acquired the large acrylic sink from a second-hand place so it became the centrepiece. It came with the big medical/laboratory faucets so there was the obligatory bling. With the Sink as the centrepiece we made places to accommodate the 25L drum of chlorine and a shelf to throw stuff whilst brewing. A roll-out shelf at the bottom so you can put things away - but more importantly see what's' there and find things again instead of scrabbling about on hands and knees. The tiles were from a place which sell small left-over quantities really cheap. They are a massive 500mm square and heavy. But it meant fewer grouting lines on the bench tops so it was worth working with the big monsters. They are a floor tile so they'll take any weight we throw up onto the bench. We decided to tile partway down the other wall as we work there as well so now it's all very clean and easy to spread the paperwork out or work with yeasts etc. So much more sanitary than our previous set-up. We have excellent bore water - very pure, so no filtering required - so at an agro show we found a fuel bowser nozzle and fitted it with 3/4inch fittings right to the bore water line. Takes no time at all to fill the HLT, cubes, kegs and anything else that gets in our way. Whilst redesigning the water lines we gave the pressure washer it's own feed as well so it can stay out of the way and no more swapping hose lines over to do different jobs. Anyway, enough yabba. A picture's worth a thousand words so take a look at the photos below |
